Can a US citizen fly within mexico WITHOUT a passport book?

OK i have a passport card which does NOT permit to fly to and into the US internationally or anywhere i think??? anyway my question is this this is my plan : I cross the border to TJ and hop on a plane to Cabo San Lucas will they let me board or will they require my passport book? is y card suffiecient? or Cali ID? or birth certificate etc?

Yes it is your only identification while you are in Mexico.

You need a passport to enter into the interior of Mexico by air. So you need it from the U.S.A. or any other country or to fly from the border into the interior.

Cabo San Lucas is in Baja California Sur, and that makes it in the interior.

Not true I just flew out of TJ to mexico city on Volaris air and all i had was my Portland Oregon ID, and went and back to TJ...they didn't care, I am already in mexico and it is a domestic flight!..Maybe everybody situation or experience is different, but this was mine!!!!!!... Maybe some airlines do care..airomexico does i know!!!

No you can NOT leave the border area. The passport requirement can NOT be circumvented. You need a Passport to fly or walk .drive or take a Bus into Mexico. You need an FMM to go beyond the border zone and you need a Passport to get one. Without an FMM , as a tourist, you will be in Mexico illegally

The only proof you need in the interior of Mexico is to prove you are mexican.
