Mexicans make exceptionally great ice creams! They must be the "Italians of the Americas." In fact Mexico City is sprouting many specialty Italian style ice cream parlors!
But others have given you such excellent advice that I can't improve much, only concur..... For more traditional Mexican delights "La Michoacana" chain has been famous for excellent ice creams and sherbets in Mexico probably for more than a century.
The new Santa Clara chain is more "upscale," more expensive, more "European" but is it ever good! You will not regret stopping there. (Oh Crap, now I need some ice cream, real bad..........)
Oh, and almost forgot, Welcome to Mexico - as you can see those of us who live here and speak English, just LOVE to answer questions about Mexico, so don't hesitate to ask.....

Mexico City (Ciudad de México) could be the capital of Mexico and an incredible city surrounded by great pile ranges. To see this city you are able to choose the very best solution hotelbye . The city's spot is unquestionably breathtaking. Two impressive snow-covered volcanoes, Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl, tower above it with their more of 5,000 meters. Mexico City also preserves countless reminders of their past and these are issues that entice the tourists. The whipping heart of Mexico City is Zócalo - the Plaza de la Constitución (Constitution Square) - where the country's first constitution was proclaimed in 1813 and now could be one of the very most visited place of Mexico City because it's one of many world's greatest squares. In Mexico City you can also visit: the National Palace, the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Templo Mayor.

I live in Baja Sur(Los Cabos area)and the best ice cream I have EVER eaten is in the small town of Todos Santos, south of La Paz. There's a small, family run ice cream store called La Paloma. They make a large assortment of yummy flavors, including wonderful fresh fruit ices. My favorite ice cream is their coco(coconut). It's to die for!

Whic city?
In most parts of Mexico there are Santa Clara (famous for its dairy quality), Michoacana (better for sherbets), and Häagen-Dazs.
In Mexico city I strongly recommend Roxy (in La Condesa, Tamaulipas in front of the church), Photo Bistró (also in la condesa, Amsterdam and Ozuluama), and La Especial de Paris (in Reforma).
Enjoy!
