Hi, I'm a Mexican citizen who is moving back in a year after I finish my education here in the US. I want to move to Spain a few months after I arrive and permanently live and study there. There is a residency and student visa but the residency part of the visa says it could take up to five years to obtain the visa unless you have a Spanish relative or are married to someone who is a Spanish citizen. I have no Spanish relative, or any other European relative. Can someone tell me if there is a loop or if there is another way to obtain the residency visa faster? thanks

In the case of Mexicans or any other ex-Spanish country you only need 5 years to obtain not the visa but the nationality. But for that you should've been living legally 5 years in the country, and a Student Visa is not considered residence for nationality purposes.

For residency, you need someone to offer you a job so you can have a working card that will allow you to work and live here.

You could ask for a Studend Visa that would only allow you to study and live in Spain and have part time jobs. You might be able to find a part time job in which you perform well and they will eventually offer you a full time contract and problem solved.

This is not a question about Mexico. This section is for questions about Mexico. Since you are planning to finish your education in Spain all you need is a student visa. I know several people from here in Mexico who have gone to Spain to study and had no Spanish relatives.

Spain is a member of the European union so can you qualify for another European Union country? If so that may allow you to live/work/study in Spain. Just use your legal status in that other EU country in Spain.
